The opportunity
We have an exciting full-time permanent national opportunity for a dynamic Senior Business Development Specialist. This position is responsible for identifying, cultivating, and securing new revenue opportunities for Community Support Services (CSS) at March of Dimes Canada (MODC). With a focus on serving seniors, individuals with physical disabilities, and individuals with acquired brain injuries, this role plays a key part in ensuring MODC’s financial sustainability and capacity to scale impact. Reporting to the Director, Social Enterprise and leading business growth initiatives you will bring your expertise in business development by researching market trends, analyzing gaps/opportunities in community-based healthcare, engaging key external stakeholders, and preparing high-quality proposals and funding applications. You will be a strategic thinker who understands the intersection of social enterprise, government-funded service models, and mission-driven innovation. You will also bring your strong collaborative skills to work with internal teams that include service delivery, finance operations, marketing and impact measurement.
As our Senior Business Development Specialist, you will be responsible for but not limited to:
Market Research & Strategic Development
- Conduct in-depth market research to identify service opportunities in home and community care, particularly affecting seniors and individuals with disabilities.
- Create strategic plans which include forecasting and incorporating metrics to enhance revenue.
- Monitor local, provincial, and federal funding opportunities and proactively assess MODC’s eligibility and competitive positioning.
- Develop and implement strategic business development plans aligned with CSS goals, organizational priorities, and MODC’s broader strategic plan.
External Engagement & Opportunity Cultivation
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including government representatives, health and community agencies, insurance companies, legal firms, funders, and potential partners.
Proposal Development & Revenue Generation
- Work closely with internal teams to develop budgets, logic models, service plans, outcome measures, and business cases.
Internal Collaboration & Implementation Support
- Collaborate with CSS program leaders, finance, and operations to align proposals with capacity, infrastructure, and workforce availability.
Marketing, Communications & Brand Positioning
- Partner with Marketing & Communications to develop tailored materials that promote CSS services to funders and partners.
- Contribute to thought leadership, case studies, and promotional campaigns that elevate MODC’s profile in the community health and disability services sectors.
Monitoring, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Track and report on business development metrics including revenue targets, proposal outcomes, success rates, and stakeholder engagement.
- Analyze outcomes to inform strategy, identify process improvements, and share learnings
- across the team.
Qualifications and experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in business development, partnership management, or external relations, ideally within the healthcare, nonprofit, community services, or disability sectors.
- Demonstrated success in securing government and philanthropic funding, or in building partnerships with funders and service delivery agencies.
- Proven ability to lead end-to-end proposal development processes in a deadline-driven environment.
- Experience in developing social enterprise service models.
- Familiarity with community-based service models, government RFPs, and public-private partnership dynamics is highly desirable.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to connect market trends with organizational priorities.
- Exceptional relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write persuasive proposals and presentations.
- High level of organization and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a bias toward action, creativity, and solution-building.
- Collaborative and team-oriented, with the ability to work effectively across departments and leadership levels.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), and project management tools.
- A strong network within health, aging, or disability sectors is a significant asset.
