Skills Development and Employment ensures that people with disabilities find and keep meaningful jobs by matching them with employers seeking qualified job candidates. In addition, they offer support with assessments, rehabilitation and child and youth programs.
The opportunity
The Employment/Placement Specialist is responsible for assisting clients with disabilities to find employment and mentorship in the tech sector or in tech enabled roles. The ECC is responsible for developing and maintaining a network of potential employers in all tech-enabled and tech industries. The ECC will work with these employers to match qualified candidates to potential job openings. The ECC is responsible for assisting clients to achieve their employment goal, including resume, cover letter and job interview assistance directly related to employment opportunities.
The ideal candidate will show an in-depth understanding of job development activities and have a client centred approach to their work. The candidate will show great initiative and problem-solving abilities. The ECC will be expected to have excellent team and interpersonal skills and be able to work comfortably under pressure while delivering quality services to clients.
Position Type: Full-Time (12 month contract), Fully Remote
Responsibilities
- Conduct cold calls and identify employers in the community with hiring needs
- Actively engage employers through telephone and face to face meetings
- Negotiate employment opportunities with employers for clients looking for employment in the ICT sector or in tech-enabled roles
- Document employer needs and requirements to assist clients to prepare for interviews
- Facilitate one-on-one job search support related to opportunities including resume and cover letter updates and mock interviews.
- Support client in their job search activities and provide follow up to the team on activities and subsequent employment.
- Meet monthly targets to ensure MODC clients are successful in obtaining and retaining meaningful employment with employers in the community
Qualifications and experience
- College diploma, Bachelor's Degree or relevant education in Career Development, Social Services or Human Resources
- Experience in job development, employer outreach and marketing, and customer relationship management; reputable experience in recruitment and screening and job placement, specifically with the tech, ICT sector and with tech-enabled employers
- Experience working with people with disabilities or barriers to employment
- Sensitivity to issues/barriers that people with disabilities experience
- Extensive knowledge of private sector and labor market trends
- Excellent written and verbal communication, sales and customer service skills
- Well-developed time management, organization and teamwork skills
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and work well under pressure
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and Adobe software
- Ability to document, maintain records and assist in reports
- A clean vulnerable sector criminal record check is required
- Bilingual in English and French is an asset
