The opportunity

All summer student employment opportunities are contract positions, ranging from 6 – 16 weeks during the summer months (April to August 2025) and are contingent on funding approval from the Canada Summer Jobs Program.

 

Responsibilities

To provide support to the Payroll team in the following areas:  

  • Assist with updating and maintaining employee data in the HRIS, which will include high volume data input  
  • File documents in the correct employee folders and create new employee files as per file management guidelines   
  • Organize the Payroll workspace, including cleaning out boxes of materials and documents, filing and coding, creating folders, files, and binders, typing file listings, preparing items for archiving, etc.  
  • General office support as required (correspondence using Microsoft office suite, filing, data entry, scanning, etc.)  
  • Sort and distribute incoming email and help to prepare outgoing email in the department.  
  • Assist the Payroll staff with special needs or projects  

Qualifications and experience

  • Office Administration experience preferred, including payroll & benefits experience with strong computer and analytical skills 
  • Currently completing or recently completed a Bachelor’s or college degree, preferably in related program   
  • Exceptional communications and written skills   
  • Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills  
  • Attention to detail and an ability to manage multiple priorities effectively   
  • Ability to work in a team or independently   
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite   

Salary:  $17.50 per hour

Important Details

  • This position is subject to the approval and funding of our application to the Canada Summer Job program.  
  • Based on the nature of our work and our commitment to Accessibility, we will prioritize hiring youth with disabilities. 
  • To be considered for the 2025 Canada Summer Job program at MODC, please confirm you meet the eligibility criteria below as outlined by Service Canada: 
    • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment. 
    • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment. 
    • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. 
    • Note: International students are not eligible participants.
