Our Community Support Services (CSS) team provides essential services that enable our clients to thrive. Whether their disability is physical, the result of brain injury or aging, our more than 2,000 team members assist clients in their homes and across communities, to live as independently as possible. 

 

The opportunity:

We are currently looking to fill the following positions, with first consideration given to the Inuit workforce:  

  • Positions: Both Full-time and Part-time positions

  • Number of positions: Approximately 20 Support Workers in Iqaluit, Nunavut 

  • Hours: This position has various hours rainging from 10 to 40 per week

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one to one support and group support within the home and community to adults with disabilities with activities of daily living, personal care, and community integration. 

  • Emphasis on assisting clients to build independence 

  • Uphold and promote Inuit cultural values and traditions in service delivery. 

  • Reporting responsibilities (incident reports, behavioural data collection and verbal reports) 

  • Participate in any required training 

  • Follow policies and procedures as required 

  • Communicate with client, family, and team members. 

  • Performs duties in a professional manner, which respects the client’s dignity, culture and right to privacy, while maintaining client and staff health and safety. 


Qualifications and experience:

  • High School graduate or equivalent 

  • Experience in the field combined with a working knowledge of disabilities 

  • CPR/Standard First Aid training required within the first 3 months of employment 

  • Proven consistency in work performance, including reliability and flexibility 

  • Proven teamwork abilities 

  • Sound behavioural management skills and problem-solving skills. 

  • Ability to speak, read, and write English 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and documentation/reporting systems. 

  • Must pass a criminal record and vulnerable sector check. 

  • Certification or diploma in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Psychology, or a related field. 

  • Fluency in Inuktitut is a strong asset. 

  • ASIST 

  • Non-Crisis Violent Intervention
