The opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Volunteer Engagement, the Volunteer Engagement Assistant a multifaceted role that offers the chance to get involved in a little bit of everything across programs and within the People & Culture department at March of Dimes Canada. From recruitment and screening to database management, communications, and website updates, no two days are the same.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is curious, creative, and eager to learn. This person in this role will support with recruitment and screening, database management, communications, and website updates. Bringing strong interpersonal skills, creativity, and a fresh perspective, the Assistant will also help identify opportunities to improve engagement, and optimize the overall volunteer experience.

Responsibilities

Support the Volunteer Engagement team with the following duties:  

  • Recruitment – role postings, resume screening, reference checking, interview support, and outreach. 
  • Communications- gather information and write articles for monthly volunteer spotlights for internal and external communications.
  • Database Management- Review volunteer profiles updating as needed by removing duplicates and inconsistencies, standardizing data formats, ensuring correct paperwork is in place. 
  • Training enhancement- review volunteer trainings, look for areas to improve accessibility, increase engagement, and create supplementary hand-outs for enhanced learning
  • Volunteer Inbox-Manage the volunteer inbox, providing timely, supportive responses and helping individuals find the information and support they need.
  • Maintain and update website content to ensure all active volunteer roles are accurate and current.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and experience

  • Currently completing or recently completed college or university, preferably in Volunteer Management, Non-profit Management, Human Resources Management or related program
  • Experience as a volunteer or working in the non-profit sector is considered an asset
  • Exceptional communications and written skills  
  • Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills
  • Ability to work in a team or independently  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite  

Salary:  $17.60 per hour

Important Details

Start Date: June 1 2026

Duration: 8 weeks

Eligibility criteria:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment 
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment 
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to
  • Work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. 

Note: International students are not eligible participants.
