Skills Development and Employment ensures that people with disabilities find and keep meaningful jobs by matching them with employers seeking qualified job candidates. In addition, they offer support with assessments, rehabilitation and child and youth programs.
The opportunity
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a full-time 1 year contract as Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist in Customized Employment at WorkBC. WorkBC is a BC government program that connects job seekers and employers – helping people find jobs, explore career options, and improve their skills, and helping employers find the right talent and grow their businesses.
Customized Employment (CE) is a flexible process designed to personalize the employment relationship between a job seeker and an employer in a way that meets the needs of both. CE involves providing individualized employment services to job seekers with complex needs and / or barriers to achieving and maintaining employment.
Salary: $31.86 per hour
Hours: 35 hours per week
Target Start Date: October 20, 2025
Responsibilities
• Accept referral and review the client plan / documentation as provided by the referral source;
• Work with adults who have disabilities and are challenged by employment barriers to identify barriers to employment, strategies to overcome them, and, where appropriate, refer to additional services for further assistance and / or diagnostic assessments;
• Provide employment and motivational counselling;
• Deliver Customized Employment services, including completion of Discovery Assessment and Employment Profile, Job Carving and on-site Job Coaching to assist job seekers to achieve sustainable employment;
• Liaise with employers for the purpose of Job Development, in order to find paid employment for job seekers with disability-specific barriers to entering the workforce;
• Case manage services to ensure timely and cost-effective service delivery;
• Complete required service reports;
• Achieve quality service standards for client satisfaction, timely delivery of service and employment outcomes.
• Travel will be required as related to Discovery, Job Development, Job Coaching and Sustainment Services.
The Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist in Customized Employment may be required to work some evenings and weekends.
Qualifications and experience
• Post-Secondary Certificate, Diploma or Degree relevant to providing services to people with disabilities;
• Working towards or holding an associated relevant professional certification (i.e. Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP), Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP), or Certified Vocational Rehabilitation Professional (CVRP);
• Minimum of two years' experience working in Employment Services / Vocational Rehabilitation with people with disabilities;
• Sensitivity to issues / barriers that people with disabilities experience;
• A combination of education and WorkBC experience may be accepted.
• Successful candidates will be required to pass a Criminal Record Check
• Assessing complex client needs in specialized areas, such as physical limitations, developmental disabilities, mobility skills, and cognitive, social and emotional barriers;
• Interpreting clinical assessments;
• Delivering customized employment, job coaching and job development services;
• Familiarity with current methods of career counselling, vocational rehabilitation, including assessment, service planning, job search skills, job analysis and job placement;
• Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills;
• Well-developed time management, organization and teamwork skills;
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize, work well under pressure and meet deadlines;
• Proficient in Microsoft Office. Familiarity with ICM is an asset.
• Ability to document, maintain records and write reports.
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle (required).
