Skills Development and Employment ensures that people with disabilities find and keep meaningful jobs by matching them with employers seeking qualified job candidates. In addition, they offer support with assessments, rehabilitation and child and youth programs.
The opportunity
- Play a pivotal role in supporting learners in the Skills Development & Employment programs.
- Provide tailored support to adult learners, ensuring accessibility and enhancing the learning experience.
- Foster equitable opportunities for individuals with disabilities through education, inclusion, and technology.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one support to learners to address learning needs.
- Assist learners in developing digital skills through personalized guidance, troubleshooting, and encouragement.
- Monitor and track learner progress, identifying and addressing barriers to success.
- Build positive, supportive relationships to foster learner confidence and engagement.
- Collaborate with the program team to design and implement accommodations (e.g., assistive technologies, alternative formats).
- Advocate for learner needs and provide feedback to improve program accessibility.
- Support instructors during virtual workshops by managing breakout rooms, monitoring chat discussions, and assisting with learner inquiries.
- Offer additional coaching and tutoring to learners requiring extra assistance.
- Contribute to program evaluations by providing feedback on learner experiences and outcomes.
- Work closely with the program team to ensure a seamless learner experience.
- Participate in team meetings and share insights to enhance program delivery.
Qualifications:
- Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Check required upon hire.
- Post-secondary education in education, social work, disability studies, or a related field is required.
- 1 – 3 years of experience supporting adult learners, preferably in digital skills or professional development programs.
- Familiarity with accessibility principles and assistive technologies is an asset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong understanding of digital tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, LMS platforms, LinkedIn Learning).
- Patience, empathy, and a solution-focused approach to supporting individuals with diverse learning needs.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively in a virtual environment.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or other equity-deserving groups is highly desirable.
