Skills Development and Employment ensures that people with disabilities find and keep meaningful jobs by matching them with employers seeking qualified job candidates. In addition, they offer support with assessments, rehabilitation and child and youth programs. 

The opportunity

 We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Job Search Specialist (also known as a Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist). As a member of the WorkSafe BC Provider network, you will provide individualized services, including resume and cover letter preparation, job search skills training, and individual job placement support.  Target Start Date / Date de début: December 16, 2024

Responsibilities

  • Accept referrals and review client plans and documentation provided by the referral source.
  • Provide services to adults with disabilities who face employment barriers.
  • Assist individuals with disabilities in identifying realistic employment options through vocational testing, assessment, and exploration.
  • Conduct transferable skills analysis and labor market research.
  • Assess client motivation and employment barriers related to disabilities and provide supportive measures.
  • Develop and prepare cover letters and resumes; deliver job search skills training.
  • Monitor and document client progress, intervening when needed to ensure client/employer matches.
  • Provide individualized job placement services, negotiate employment opportunities, and arrange wage subsidies as required.
  • Offer follow-up support to employers, including regular check-ins, accommodation support, and necessary interventions to ensure positive outcomes.
  • Participate in marketing and promotional activities for employer recruitment.


Qualifications and experience

  • Education: Post-secondary degree in a related field and CCDP certification
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of directly related experience within the last 5 years in job search skills, resume and cover letter preparation, and job placement services
  • Designations (any of the following):
    • Certified Career Development Professional (CCDP)
    • Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP)
    • Registered Vocational Professional (RVP)
    • Certified Vocational Professional (CVP)
    • Master’s Certificate: Vocational Professional (MCVP) through the College of Vocational Rehabilitation Professionals (CVRP)
    • Canadian Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC/CCRC)
  • Additional Requirements: Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Criminal Record Check: Successful candidates must pass a Criminal Record Check

     

Demonstrated Experience in:

    • Assessing complex client needs, including physical limitations, developmental disabilities, and cognitive, social, and emotional barriers
    • Interpreting clinical assessments
    • Providing resume and cover letter preparation, job search skills training, and job placement services
    • Familiarity with career counseling and vocational rehabilitation, including assessment, service planning, job analysis, and placement
    • Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills
    • Strong time management, organizational, and teamwork skills
    • Ability to prioritize, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
    • Documenting, maintaining records, and report writing

  • Salary: $29.70 per hour (Full-time, 35-hour work week)
